Business 14" laptop with Core i5-7300U

This HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor at 2.6 GHz. It ships with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD running Windows 10 Home. The 1366 x 768 LED display, integrated Intel HD Graphics 620, and full-size DisplayPort plus VGA make it suited for office productivity and docked workflows.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

The chassis provides VGA, DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port, so users with older projectors or wired networks can connect without adapters. Buyers who want a touchscreen, higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or a lighter ultrabook chassis should look at something else.

1366 x 768 non-touch display decides fit

The screen resolution is 1366 x 768 on a 14.0 inch non-touch panel, which determines whether text clarity and workspace area meet your requirements. If the application demands 1080p or touch input, this unit will not satisfy that need.

Questions about this item

How do I install the NVMe M.2 SSD and what step is often missed?

Insert the drive at an angle into the M.2 slot, press it flat, and secure it with the single retention screw; the step often missed is fastening that screw, which leaves the drive unseated and undetected.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded; the only later action is a Windows 11 Pro clean install when Windows 10 Home reaches end of support.

What limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the Core i5-7300U?

The dual-core 2.6 GHz processor reaches its thermal ceiling quickly, causing clock speeds to drop below base frequency during prolonged multi-threaded tasks.
