Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 combines a 14.0" QHD display with an Intel Core i7-7500U processor running at 2.7 GHz. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe SSD provide responsive performance for office applications and multitasking. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed for immediate deployment in managed environments.

Included charger and battery enable portable use

The supplied power adapter and internal battery let the system operate away from a desk without additional purchases. A 720p webcam supports video calls, while a full-size DisplayPort and VGA connector allow direct attachment to external monitors or projectors. One USB 3.1 Type-C port and two USB 3.0 ports handle peripherals and data transfer.

Integrated graphics limit 3D workloads

Intel HD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory and suits 2D productivity, video playback and light photo editing. It cannot accelerate modern games or GPU compute tasks that require dedicated video memory. The 15 W dual-core processor also constrains sustained heavy compute such as video rendering or large-scale data analysis.

Questions about this item

How often will the 8 GB DDR4 memory need an upgrade for typical workloads?

The 8 GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be expanded, so plan your workload around that fixed capacity.

What thermal limit appears first when the Intel Core i7-7500U runs at 2.7 GHz continuously?

The 15 W TDP envelope is reached quickly, causing the processor to throttle clocks to stay within its power budget.

How loud does the cooling fan get during an all-day compile on this 14.0" EliteBook?

Under sustained load the single fan spins up to an audible whir, but idle noise stays near silent in a quiet room.
