Silver aluminium unibody business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch non-touch notebook built for professionals who need a managed, secure Windows 10 Pro device. Its silver aluminium chassis houses an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with Intel UHD Graphics 620. The system targets IT-managed fleets and mobile knowledge workers.

256 GB PCIe M.2 SSD and 8 GB DDR4 RAM

The 256 GB solid-state drive provides fast boot and application load times for typical office workloads and light creative tasks. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory in a 4 GB x 2 configuration handles multitasking across browser tabs, documents and video calls. Memory can be expanded to 32 GB if workflows demand more headroom. The integrated graphics and storage combination reaches its limit with heavy 3D rendering, large video timelines or extensive virtual machines.

USB 3.0 and USB Type-C with DisplayPort

Two USB 3.0 ports and USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort functionality support docking, external monitors and peripherals without proprietary adapters. The aluminium unibody resists flex during daily transport. Intel vPro, HP Sure Start and optional HP Sure Recover give IT departments remote manageability and firmware-level security. Buyers who need dedicated graphics, a larger 15.6 inch screen or a smaller 13.3 inch form factor should evaluate other EliteBook G5 models.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i7-8650U with Intel UHD Graphics 620 handle my existing 1080p external monitor over USB-C?

Yes, the USB Type-C ports include DisplayPort functionality so a 1920 x 1080 external display will run from the integrated graphics without a discrete GPU.

How can I confirm the quad-core i7-8650U is boosting to its 4.2 GHz maximum after I set up Windows 10 Pro?

Open Task Manager’s Performance tab and watch the CPU frequency climb toward 4.2 GHz during a heavy single-thread load such as Cinebench or a large compile.

Does the box include a second 4 GB DDR4 stick so the 8 GB total runs in dual-channel, or must I buy one?

The memory spec lists 4 GB x 2, meaning two 4 GB DDR4 modules are already installed for dual-channel operation; no extra RAM purchase is needed.
