Portable business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14-inch laptop built for professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro device for office applications and mobility. Its silver aluminium chassis houses an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with a base clock of 1.70GHz and turbo up to 3.60GHz, supported by 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB NVMe SSD.

Suited to mobile office work.

This configuration suits users who prioritise a lightweight, durable machine for document editing, video calls and web-based workflows on the move. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance for 3D rendering, video editing or modern gaming should look at a different class of device, as the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 is limited to basic visual tasks.

Everyday capacity with modest headroom

The 256GB NVMe drive provides fast boot and application loading for a standard business software suite and local file storage. The 8GB DDR4 memory handles typical multitasking across browser tabs, office apps and collaboration tools, though memory-intensive workloads such as large datasets or virtual machines will quickly exhaust the available RAM.

Questions about this item

What ports does the laptop need to connect an external monitor?

The laptop provides an HDMI port and a Thunderbolt USB Type‑C port that can both drive an external display.

Will the 8 GB of DDR4‑2400 memory and the Intel UHD 620 graphics handle my older USB‑3.0 dock and legacy peripherals?

Yes, the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are backward compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0 devices, so existing docks and peripherals will work.

How can I verify the 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD is recognised and running at full speed after setup?

Open Task Manager’s Performance tab or Device Manager and confirm the drive appears as a 256 GB NVMe SSD with active read/write activity.
