Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.90 GHz. It comes with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed. The 1920 x 1080 FHD LED display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handle everyday productivity.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This configuration suits professionals who need a portable 14 inch Windows 11 Pro machine with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB NVMe storage for office applications, video calls and multi-tasking on the move. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a discrete graphics card or a larger display should look elsewhere.

Deciding spec: 32 GB DDR4 with 1 TB NVMe

The combination of 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD is the specification that determines fit. It provides ample headroom for heavy multi-tasking and large local datasets without relying on external drives. If your workflow needs more memory or storage capacity, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the 1TB NVMe SSD need replacement for more storage later?

The 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is the installed drive; adding capacity later would require swapping it for a larger M.2 module.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8650U runs at full load continuously?

The 15 W TDP of the quad-core i7-8650U is the first ceiling hit under sustained load, causing the CPU to throttle clocks to stay within its power envelope.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel during an all-day workload?

Under continuous load the 15 W processor pushes the cooling fan to audible speeds and the aluminium palm-rest area becomes noticeably warm to the touch.
