Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who need reliable performance on the move. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 1.9 GHz base clock and 6 MB L3 cache. The system includes 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 2 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for fast storage. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed for immediate productivity.

Thermals and power in daily use

The 15 W processor targets efficient operation for typical office workloads and web browsing. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and handles video playback without a discrete GPU. Fan noise stays low during document work and video calls. The 65 W charger replenishes the battery between meetings.

Build, ports and daily connectivity

A silver chassis houses a non-touch 1920 x 1080 LED display with wide-screen support. One USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet cover docking and peripheral needs. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 provides Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A 720p webcam supports conferencing. Grade B condition means visible cosmetic wear such as scratches or shiny keys.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2 TB NVMe drive and what step is often missed?

The 2 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is already fitted. No installation is required; the only step buyers sometimes miss is initialising the drive in Windows 10 Pro Disk Management before it appears.

Which component will need replacement first under normal use?

The internal battery is the part most likely to need replacement first; it is a consumable that degrades with charge cycles while the 16 GB DDR4 memory and 2 TB NVMe SSD are non‑mechanical.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads?

The Intel Core i7‑8650U is rated at 15 W; under continuous load the CPU will hit its thermal ceiling and throttle clock speeds before the Intel UHD Graphics 620 or the NVMe SSD reach their limits.
