HP EliteBook 840 G7 mobile workstation

This HP EliteBook 840 G7 is a 14-inch business laptop built for professionals who need a compact Windows 11 Pro machine. It runs on a quad-core Intel Core i7-10610U processor with 8 MB of L3 cache. The system includes 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for storage. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics drive the 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display with LED backlight. Connectivity covers two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5. A 720p webcam is integrated above the screen.

Suits mobile professionals needing Thunderbolt 3

The quad-core i7-10610U and 1 TB NVMe SSD handle office workloads, video calls and multi-monitor setups through the two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Buyers who want a dedicated GPU for 3D rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. The 8 GB of DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded, so users who anticipate heavier multitasking will hit a memory ceiling. The chassis shows Grade B cosmetic wear including scratches or shiny keys, which rules out buyers expecting a pristine appearance.

8 GB soldered DDR4 limits future multitasking

The single specification that decides fit is the 8 GB of soldered DDR4 memory with no additional slots. This capacity is fixed for the life of the device and cannot be increased after purchase. If your workflow regularly exceeds 8 GB — such as running virtual machines, large datasets or many browser tabs alongside creative apps — this laptop will throttle performance. If your daily use stays within that limit, the CPU, SSD and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity remain capable for years of professional service.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Intel Core i7-10610U is running at its 1.80 GHz base speed after setup?

Open Task Manager in Windows 11 Pro, select the Performance tab and watch the CPU clock settle at 1.80 GHz when idle; the quad-core, eight-thread Comet Lake processor with 8 MB cache will ramp higher under load.

What comes in the box and what must I source separately for the EliteBook 840 G7?

The package includes the laptop, charger and battery; no optical drive is fitted, so any external USB DVD drive or additional Thunderbolt 3 dock must be purchased separately.

Which configuration should I choose if I need more than 8 GB DDR4 or a larger NVMe drive?

This listing is fixed at 8 GB DDR4 and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD; to get more memory or storage you would need to select a different SKU or upgrade the SODIMM and M.2 slot yourself after purchase.
