Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G8 is a new 14.0 inch laptop built around an Intel Core i5-1145G7 processor, 16GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and a 1920 x 1080 touchscreen. The silver chassis carries a Grade A cosmetic rating, making it suited to professionals who need a clean, portable device for office work, video calls and light content creation on the move.

Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI 2.0 expand connectivity

Two Thunderbolt 4 ports support high-speed peripherals, external displays and dock solutions through a single cable. One HDMI 2.0 output adds a straightforward link to projectors or monitors without adapters. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 handle wireless networking and accessory pairing, so the laptop can drive a multi-screen desk setup or stay connected in shared workspaces without extra dongles.

Ready to use with minimal setup

Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and activated, so the machine reaches the desktop quickly after the first power-on. Driver updates for Thunderbolt and wireless hardware typically arrive through Windows Update, though some IT departments prefer to apply a managed image before deployment. Buyers who need more internal storage or additional ports should plan for external solutions, as the internal configuration is fixed.

Questions about this item

How do I upgrade the 16GB memory or the 256GB SSD later?

The 16GB memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded. The 256GB SSD uses an M.2 slot so it can be replaced with a larger drive when you need more space.

Which component hits its limit first during a long render — the i5-1145G7 CPU or the 16GB RAM?

The 16GB RAM will fill up before the i5-1145G7 reaches thermal throttle, so memory capacity is the first bottleneck on sustained heavy workloads.

How loud do the fans get and how hot does the chassis feel when I run the i5-1145G7 at full load all day?

Under continuous load the fans spin up to an audible but not distracting level and the keyboard deck warms to a noticeable but comfortable temperature.
