Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 850 G3 is a 15.6-inch laptop built for office work and travel. It ships new with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 240GB NVMe SSD but no operating system. The Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor runs at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. Buyers who need a pre-installed OS or a touchscreen should look elsewhere.

Display and graphics capability

The non-touch HD panel shows 1366 x 768 resolution and is driven by Intel HD Graphics 520 integrated graphics. This combination suits document editing, web browsing and video playback. It will not satisfy users who require higher pixel density or discrete graphics for creative or engineering workloads.

Thermals and power in daily use

The low-power dual-core CPU and integrated graphics keep heat and fan noise modest during typical productivity tasks. The 240GB NVMe SSD has no moving parts, so it adds negligible thermal load. The chassis remains comfortable for lap use during extended sessions.

Questions about this item

How does the 3.00 GHz turbo frequency behave under everyday workloads?

The dual-core i5-6300U can reach 3.00 GHz on short bursts, so office apps and web browsing stay responsive before thermals pull clocks back to the 2.40 GHz base.

What does the M.2 NVMe PCIe interface mean for the 240 GB drive in this chassis?

The drive uses an M.2 NVMe PCIe connection, giving much faster random access than older interfaces so the OS and apps load quickly.

Can the two memory slots take more than the installed 16 GB of DDR4?

Yes, the board supports up to 32 GB total across both slots, so you can add another module later if needed.
