HP EliteBook 850 G3 Business Laptop

The HP EliteBook 850 G3 is a 15.6-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.40 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD for storage. The display is a 1920 x 1080 non-touch panel with anti-glare coating. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handles video output using shared system memory. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Suits Mobile Professionals Needing Essential Ports

This configuration suits professionals who need a full selection of legacy and modern ports including USB Type-C, DisplayPort, VGA and RJ-45 on a single chassis. The 4.06 kg weight and 15.6-inch footprint make it less practical for frequent air travel or daily commuting on foot. Buyers who want a lighter ultrabook or a dedicated graphics chip for creative workloads should look at something else.

Sustained Load Behaviour With Integrated Graphics

Under sustained load the dual-core processor and shared-memory graphics will throttle to manage thermals within the slim chassis. The 8 GB of DDR4 memory can be expanded to 32 GB across two slots if workloads demand more headroom. Battery life is guaranteed to hold a charge though actual runtime will vary with screen brightness and background tasks. The lithium-ion cell supports typical office workflows without active cooling noise becoming intrusive.

Questions about this item

What type of RAM must already be installed to reach the 32 GB maximum?

The laptop uses DDR4 memory and has two slots, so matching DDR4 modules are needed to reach the 32 GB limit.

Will a monitor connected through the VGA port work with the Intel HD Graphics 520?

Yes, the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the VGA output alongside the DisplayPort and USB Type-C video connections.

How can I confirm the 256 GB SSD is recognised after first boot?

Open File Explorer or Disk Management in Windows 10 Pro and verify a single 256 GB drive appears with the expected free space.
