HP EliteBook 850 G5 15.6 FHD

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 is a 15.6 inch business laptop with a 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. The system includes 8GB DDR4 memory configured as 4 GB x 2 and a 1TB SSD. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed.

Sustained workload behaviour

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday office tasks and video playback without a discrete GPU. Under continuous load the quad-core i5-8350U maintains steady clocks for document editing, web browsing and video calls. The aluminum chassis helps dissipate heat during extended sessions. Fan noise stays moderate for typical productivity workloads.

Installation and common issues

Windows 11 Pro is ready to use out of the box with the included OEM AC adapter. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C with Thunderbolt, HDMI 1.4b and RJ-45 provide standard connectivity. Memory upgrades to 32GB are possible via DDR4 slots. Buyers who want more storage than 1TB or need a discrete graphics card should consider other models.

Questions about this item

How hot and loud does the EliteBook 850 G5 get when the i5-8350U runs at full load all day?

The quad-core i5-8350U is a 15 W part with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, so sustained workloads stay within a thin-and-light thermal envelope; fan noise is audible but not intrusive in a typical office.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port with Thunderbolt on this laptop?

The port accepts any USB-C cable for data or charging, and a Thunderbolt 3 dock or device for 40 Gbit/s throughput; no proprietary adapter is required.

Will my existing SATA SSD work alongside the 1 TB NVME drive already installed in the 850 G5?

The chassis provides one M.2 slot used by the 1 TB NVME drive and a separate 2.5-inch bay that can accept a SATA SSD, so both can coexist.
