Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 pairs an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. A 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 FHD LED display provides a clear workspace. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 15 W U-series chip maintains its 1.90 GHz base clock across extended sessions without thermal throttling typical of thinner ultraportables. Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory for video decoding and multi-monitor output. The NVMe drive keeps compile times and large-file transfers consistent over long periods.

Chassis, ports and daily docking

A single USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port handles power, data and external displays through one cable. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI and Gigabit RJ-45 cover legacy peripherals and wired networks. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 supplies dual-band Wi-Fi. The integrated webcam supports conferencing without extra hardware. Grade B cosmetic condition means visible scratches or shiny key surfaces; the LCD shows minor white spots or a hairline scratch.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the EliteBook 850 G5 get when the i7-8650U runs at full load for hours?

The quad-core i7-8650U is rated at 15 W, so the fan stays relatively quiet and surface temperatures remain moderate during sustained workloads.

What cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port on this EliteBook 850 G5?

The single USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3, so any certified Thunderbolt 3 cable, dock or DisplayPort adapter will work for video and data.

Will my older USB 3.0 peripherals and HDMI monitor work straight away with the 850 G5?

Yes — two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a full-size HDMI 1.4 output are built in, so legacy devices connect without adapters.
