Business laptop with quad-core i7

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 delivers a 15.6 inch 1920 x 1080 FHD display driven by an Intel Core i7-8650U running at 1.9 GHz with four cores and eight threads. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a one terabyte NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provide responsive multitasking and fast storage for office workloads. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Silver chassis with Thunderbolt 3 and Gigabit

A single USB Type-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 for high-speed peripherals and external displays while two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports handle legacy devices. Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 give flexible wired and wireless connectivity. An integrated 720p webcam and HDMI output cover conferencing and presentation needs.

Integrated graphics limit 3D and video work

Intel UHD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory and suits desktop productivity, light photo editing and 1080p playback. Demanding creative applications, modern gaming or GPU-accelerated rendering will run slowly or not at all. The 15 watt processor throttles under sustained heavy loads so long compile jobs or batch exports take longer than on higher-power systems.

Questions about this item

What speed does the Thunderbolt 3 port on this EliteBook 850 G5 actually deliver?

The single USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port runs at USB 3.1 Gen 1 rates, so data transfers top out at 5 Gb/s instead of the full Thunderbolt bandwidth.

What clearance and screw pattern does the 1 TB NVMe drive in this 850 G5 need?

It uses a standard M.2 2280 slot on the motherboard; the drive is 80 mm long and held by one screw, so no caddy or adapter is required.

How is Windows 10 Pro activated on this unit, and what step do buyers often miss?

A digital licence is tied to the motherboard; after first boot, connect to the internet once so Microsoft can re-validate the hardware ID automatically.
