Ready for competitive play

The HP OMEN 16 pairs an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. A 16" WQXGA IPS panel runs at up to 240 Hz with 3 ms response time and 500 nits brightness. 32 GB DDR5 memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD handle modern titles and creative workloads.

Check your peripherals and power

The laptop offers one USB Type-C 10Gbps port with USB Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, one USB Type-A 10Gbps port, two USB Type-A 5Gbps ports, HDMI 2.1, RJ-45 Ethernet, a headphone/microphone combo jack and an AC smart-pin connector. Verify that your dock, monitors and chargers match these interfaces.

Thermals, noise and power draw

A 6-cell 83 Wh lithium-ion polymer battery supplies mobile power. The chassis measures 15.7" x 10.87" x 0.99" and weighs 7.05 lbs, providing room for airflow under sustained loads. Fan speed scales with CPU and GPU demand, so acoustics rise during intensive gaming sessions.

Questions about this item

Does the laptop ship with the 32 GB DDR5 and 1 TB NVMe SSD already installed, or do I need to add them myself?

The unit comes with 32 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD fitted from the factory, so no separate memory or storage purchase is required.

The display is listed at 60-240 Hz — does it run at 240 Hz out of the box or do I need to change a setting?

The panel supports a variable range up to 240 Hz; Windows will default to the highest available refresh rate, so 240 Hz is active immediately after setup.

What does the 5.3 GHz boost clock on the Ryzen 9 8940HX mean for actual gaming frame rates?

The 5.3 GHz single-core boost helps hit high frame rates in CPU-limited titles, while the 16-core 32-thread design keeps background tasks from stalling the RTX 5070 during play.
