1U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2640v3 CPUs, 128GB DDR4, H240ar RAID, and eight 2.5-inch drive bays
The HP ProLiant DL360 G9 fits a dual-socket platform into a single rack unit. Two Xeon E5-2640v3 processors provide 16 physical cores and 32 threads at 2.6GHz. The 128GB DDR4 ECC configuration fills the maximum supported capacity across 24 DIMM slots. This density suits virtualisation hosts, database nodes and HPC clusters where rack space is at a premium.
Dual hot-swap 500W power supplies deliver N+1 redundancy without shutting down for replacement. The Smart HBA H240ar handles 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Matrox G200 graphics with 16MB video memory provide basic console output. No GPUs are installed, keeping thermal load predictable for standard data-centre airflow.
The chassis accepts eight SFF drive trays with screws included; drives are not supplied. An optional universal media bay or two extra SFF bays can expand storage frontally. All 24 DDR4 slots are populated at the 128GB limit, so further memory upgrades require replacing existing modules. The C610 chipset and dual-socket design support up to 36 total cores with compatible Xeon v3 or v4 processors.

Other versions of this model
Slide the server into the rack, attach the cable management arm, then insert the two E5-2640v3 processors into their sockets and populate the 24 DDR4 DIMM slots evenly across both CPUs; the step most people miss is enabling the second processor in BIOS before the memory on that side becomes usable.
The two 500 W hot-swap power supplies and the system fans are the only field-replaceable units rated for wear; drive trays and the H240ar controller rarely fail, but keep spare trays for the eight 2.5-inch bays.
The 500 W redundant power supply rating is the first hard ceiling; with both E5-2640v3 CPUs at 2.6 GHz and 128 GB DDR4 active, sustained loads can approach the supply limit before the 1U chassis airflow becomes the bottleneck.
