HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 1U rack server

This 1U rack server is built for dense compute workloads in space-constrained environments. It ships with a single twelve-core Xeon E5-2670 v3 processor running at 2.3 GHz and sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The platform supports a second processor to reach up to twenty-four physical cores. Two 1 TB SAS drives are installed behind the Smart HBA H240ar controller.

Eight-bay 2.5-inch SAS drive limit

The chassis provides eight small-form-factor bays for 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives. The installed H240ar controller handles twelve gigabit SAS and six gigabit SATA links with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Maximum memory capacity reaches three terabytes across twenty-four DIMM slots when both processor sockets are populated. Drive count and memory slots set the practical expansion ceiling.

Tool-less rails and redundant power simplify

The server slides into a standard rack on tool-less rails and draws power from two hot-swap 500 W supplies for redundancy. Memory population rules require matched DIMMs per processor, so mixing capacities across the twelve slots per CPU can prevent the system from posting. Drive trays are included only with populated bays, so additional drives need their own carriers.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the single E5-2670 v3 or add a second processor?

The chassis supports up to two Xeon E5-2670 v3 CPUs; adding the second doubles cores to 24 and unlocks the remaining 12 DIMM slots for up to 3 TB total DDR4.

What does the 12-core 2.3 GHz CPU deliver in this 1U server?

The E5-2670 v3 provides 12 physical cores and 24 threads at 2.3 GHz, giving strong multi-threaded throughput for virtualisation or database workloads within the 1U form factor.

How does the H240ar controller’s 12 Gb SAS link affect the installed 6 Gbps drives?

The H240ar runs at 12 Gb SAS, but the supplied 1 TB 7.2K drives operate at 6 Gbps, so the controller caps at the drive speed while leaving headroom for faster SAS SSDs later.
