Dual Xeon E5-2643v3 3.4GHz

This 2U rack server ships with two six-core Xeon E5-2643v3 processors running at 3.4GHz. It targets businesses that need a dense, redundant platform for virtualization, databases or traditional enterprise workloads. The chassis includes dual 500W hot-swap power supplies and 24 DDR4 DIMM slots for future growth.

H240ar 12Gb SAS RAID controller

The Smart HBA H240ar provides 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 support. It manages the two installed 1TB 7.2K SAS drives and any additional drives added to the eight SFF bays. This controller choice locks the storage path to SAS/SATA; NVMe drives require a different backplane option not included here.

32GB DDR4 with 3TB ceiling

The system arrives with 32GB of ECC registered DDR4 spread across the 24 slots, leaving ample room to scale toward the 3TB maximum. Two 1TB SAS drives give a starting point for mirrored or striped arrays, while the eight-bay chassis can accept up to 16 or 24 drives with optional cages. Memory speed will follow the processor capability up to 2400MT/s.

Questions about this item

What real-world throughput can I expect from the 12Gb SAS controller with the installed 6Gbps SAS drives?

The Smart HBA H240ar controller supports 12Gb SAS links, but the two factory-fitted 1TB 7.2K drives are 6Gbps SAS, so each drive will run at its native 6Gbps speed.

Which RAID levels does the H240ar controller support for these two 1TB SAS drives?

The controller enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60; with only two drives you can create RAID 0 or RAID 1 volumes.

How many 2.5-inch drive bays does the 8 SFF chassis provide and how many are already occupied?

The server ships with eight small-form-factor bays; two are filled with the 1TB SAS drives and six remain free for expansion.
