2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2643v3 3.4GHz CPUs, 16GB DDR4, P440 4GB FBWC RAID and 24 SFF drive bays
This HP ProLiant DL380 G9 occupies 2U of rack space and provides twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays backed by a Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache. Dual Xeon E5-2643v3 processors at 3.4GHz deliver six cores each, and 16GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed across the twenty-four DIMM slots. Redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running during a single supply failure.
Buyers who want a high bay count with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 will match this configuration, as will teams that rely on SAS connectivity at 12Gb and 6Gb speeds. The sixteen-megabyte Matrox G200eH2 video output serves only basic console management, so graphics-intensive tasks are not supported. No drives ship with the unit, and no optical drive option exists on the 24-bay model, so a separate media source is required for installation media.
The single specification that decides fit is the twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays combined with the P440 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60; if the workload demands more bays or a different RAID feature set, this chassis cannot satisfy it.
