A 2U rack server with dual twelve-core Xeon processors at 2.3GHz, 8GB DDR4, and two 146GB 15K SAS drives on a P440 RAID controller with 4GB flash-backed cache
Installed Memory Size 8GB
HDD 2 x 146GB
The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack server equipped with two twelve-core Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors running at 2.3GHz. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and includes two 146GB 15K SAS drives managed by a Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache. Redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies are fitted as standard.
This platform suits environments that need high core density and SAS storage in a compact 2U form factor, such as virtualisation hosts or database nodes. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics provide only basic console output, so buyers who require GPU acceleration should look elsewhere. The installed memory is limited to 8GB, so deployments needing large datasets will have to populate additional DDR4 modules.
The chassis offers 24 small-form-factor bays with an optional rear cage for two more drives, all served by the P440 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. This combination of bay count and RAID flexibility is the specification that determines whether the server fits a given storage topology.

Other versions of this model
The server arrives with two Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors, 8GB DDR4, two 146GB SAS drives, a P440 controller with 4GB FBWC, and dual 500W power supplies. An operating system and additional memory or drives are not included.
Each processor controls 12 slots. Fill all 24 slots with matched DDR4 ECC registered modules — 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB — up to 3TB total; speed runs up to 2400 MT/s depending on the CPU.
The P440/4GB FBWC supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 at 12 Gb/s. With the two 146GB 15K drives you get high IOPS for transactional workloads, and the flash-backed cache protects writes during power loss.
