2U rack server with 16 SFF bays, single Xeon 12-core 2.3GHz, 96GB DDR4, two 146GB 15K SAS drives and P440 4GB FBWC RAID controller
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server equipped with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 twelve-core processor running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 96 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across 24 DIMM slots, reaching the maximum capacity supported by this single-CPU configuration. Two 146 GB 15 K SAS drives and an HP Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB flash-backed write cache provide hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The sixteen 2.5-inch SFF bays allow further storage expansion without leaving the rack.
Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies deliver full redundancy for continuous operation in a data centre environment. The system uses Intel C610 chipset architecture and a Matrox G200eH2 graphics controller for basic management output. Under normal utilisation the redundant fans and power supplies maintain stable temperatures and acoustic levels appropriate for a standard server room, with power draw scaling to the single installed processor and memory population.
With only one of the two possible Xeon E5 v3 sockets populated, the server delivers twelve physical cores and twenty-four threads for prolonged compute tasks such as database serving or virtual machine hosting. Memory speed operates up to 2400 MT/s depending on the installed processor capability. The 12 Gb/s SAS RAID controller sustains throughput for mixed read-write workloads across the sixteen drive bays. Buyers needing more than twelve cores or 96 GB of RAM must add a second compatible processor and additional DIMMs.

Other versions of this model
Remove the air baffle, insert the second E5-2670 v3 into the empty CPU socket, apply thermal paste, attach its heatsink, then populate the 12 DIMM slots belonging to that processor so memory interleaving works correctly.
The flash-backed write cache module contains a capacitor pack that degrades; plan to replace the FBWC unit when the controller reports a capacitor health warning during POST.
The single 500 W power supply rating becomes the ceiling once both 12-core CPUs, 96 GB DDR4, 16 SAS drives and the P440 controller draw peak power together.
