A 2U rack server with 24 SFF drive bays, dual 500W power supplies and a P440 RAID controller with 4GB flash-backed cache
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for dense storage workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz and 8GB of DDR4 ECC memory. The chassis provides 24 small-form-factor drive bays with trays and screws included, suited for teams needing high drive counts in a standard rack footprint.
Two hot-swap 500W power supplies deliver redundancy without extra cabling. The integrated Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache connects to the backplane at 12Gb/s SAS, freeing PCIe slots for additional networking or acceleration cards. The server supports a second processor kit to unlock the remaining 12 DIMM slots and additional PCIe lanes.
The 24 SFF bays accommodate large SAS or SSD arrays under RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60, scaling raw capacity to dozens of terabytes. Memory can grow to 3TB across 24 slots when the second CPU is installed, though the single-processor configuration limits active channels to 12 slots. Builders needing more than 24 drives or GPU compute should evaluate alternative chassis designs.
