Dual Xeon E5-2630v3 2.4GHz server

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processors running at 2.4GHz. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots and includes two 300GB 15K 3.5-inch SAS drives. The Smart HBA H240ar controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for storage arrays. This configuration suits businesses needing dense compute in a standard rack footprint.

Redundant 500W power with hot-swap supply

Dual 500W redundant hot-swap power supplies maintain uptime during a single unit failure or routine replacement. The 2U chassis uses system fans that scale speed to thermal load from the CPUs, memory and drive cage. Under typical workloads the power draw is shared between both supplies, reducing strain on each module. Acoustic output remains within data-centre norms for a 2U platform.

12-bay LFF chassis with rear expansion option

The front holds twelve 3.5-inch large-form-factor bays populated with the two included SAS drives; ten bays remain open for additional SAS or SATA storage. A rear cage can add three more LFF or two SFF bays at the cost of the second riser slot. The H240ar controller handles 12Gbps SAS and 6Gbps SATA across all connected drives. No operating system is included, so the installer provides the hypervisor or OS of choice.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 3.5″ SAS drives and what step is often missed?

Slide each drive into a front LFF bay until the latch clicks; the step people miss is seating the carrier fully so the backplane connector engages, otherwise the H240ar will not see the disk.

What maintenance will the 500 W redundant power supplies need later?

The hot-swap 500 W units are rated for continuous operation; plan to replace a module only if a fault LED lights or after several years of 24/7 duty.

What limit appears first when both Xeon E5-2630v3 CPUs run at 2.4 GHz under sustained load?

The installed 8 GB DDR4 across 24 slots becomes the bottleneck long before the 36 total cores or dual 500 W supplies reach their limits.
