2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2643 v3 3.4 GHz six-core CPUs, 96 GB DDR4, H240ar RAID controller and eight 2.5-inch drive bays
This 2U rack server ships with dual Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processors at 3.4GHz and 96GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. The HP Smart HBA H240ar controller provides 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 support. Two redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies are fitted and the Matrox G200eH2 GPU supplies 16MB of video memory. No operating system is included.
IT teams needing a dense 2U platform for virtualisation, database or compute workloads that benefit from high single-thread frequency and up to 36 total cores across two sockets will find the installed 96GB DDR4 a practical starting point. Eight SFF drive bays accept 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives and the H240ar handles RAID without a separate card. Buyers who need NVMe boot devices, GPU compute accelerators or more than 96GB of memory from day one should evaluate other configurations.
The server reaches its maximum installed memory of 96GB with the current DIMM population, so any workload requiring more capacity will need a different starting configuration or a platform that supports larger modules.

Other versions of this model
The base unit has 8 SFF bays; optional kits add 8 more in bay 2 and another 8 in bay 3 for 16 or 24 total 2.5-inch drives.
Dual six-core CPUs at 3.4 GHz give 12 physical cores and 24 threads, with memory speed capped at 2400 MT/s by the processor memory controller.
It limits SAS drives to 12 Gb/s and SATA drives to 6 Gb/s, and supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 across the installed bays.
