2U rack server with a six-core Xeon at 1.9 GHz, 16 GB DDR4, two 146 GB 15K SAS drives and a P440 RAID controller with 4 GB flash-backed cache
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rackmount server system designed for data-centre workloads that demand dense storage and redundant power. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 16GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. Two 146GB 15K SAS drives and a Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache provide hardware RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies deliver redundancy in a 24-bay SFF chassis.
This configuration suits buyers who need a 24-bay 2.5-inch SAS platform with hardware RAID and redundant power from a single-socket start. It also fits teams planning to scale memory up to 3TB using registered ECC DDR4 modules. Organisations that require two processors installed at purchase, or who need more than 16GB of memory out of the box, should evaluate other configurations.
The server arrives with one six-core Xeon E5-2609 v3 at 1.9GHz and supports a second identical processor for up to 12 total cores. This single-CPU starting point determines the initial thread count and memory-channel population for workloads that are sensitive to core density.

Other versions of this model
The system uses two 500W hot-swap power supplies in a redundant configuration; actual draw varies with workload but the supplies are sized for the 6-core 1.9GHz processor and 24 SFF drive bays.
The chassis includes 24 SFF bays; trays are supplied only with the two factory-installed 146GB 15K SAS drives, so extra trays and SAS cables are needed for any further drives.
The P440 is a 12Gb/6Gb SAS RAID controller; it manages storage only and does not control system memory, so DDR4 modules from a Gen8 server are handled by the Gen9 memory controller, not the P440.
