2U rack server with a 3.4GHz six-core Xeon, 16GB DDR4, B140i SATA RAID and eight 2.5-inch drive bays
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4GHz and 16GB of DDR4 memory. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy from day one. The B140i controller handles SATA RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10.
This server suits teams that want redundant power, 24 DIMM slots and eight 2.5-inch drive bays for SATA media. The installed CPU delivers 12 threads for virtualised or database tasks. Buyers who need hardware RAID, NVMe support or a second processor pre-installed should look at a different configuration. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics with 16MB video memory is only for basic console output.
The storage controller is the B140i, which manages RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 across SATA drives only. It cannot address SAS or NVMe media. Eight small-form-factor bays accept 2.5-inch SATA SSDs or HDDs; no drives are included. Expansion bays can add more SFF slots or a universal media bay, but the RAID engine remains limited to SATA RAID levels.

Other versions of this model
Yes, the chassis includes two drive trays with screws but no drives are installed; the B140i controller supports SATA RAID 0/1/5/10 across the eight small-form-factor slots.
The B140i is a SATA-only software RAID engine; it will not address SAS drives on the backplane, so legacy SAS media would require a dedicated hardware RAID card.
On first boot, enter the UEFI System Utilities or iLO 4 interface; the processor summary will show one 6-core 3.4 GHz CPU with hyper-threading presenting 12 logical threads.
