2U rack server with Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core 3.4GHz CPU, 48GB DDR4 memory and two 146GB 15K SAS drives on an H240ar controller
This HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server with a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor at 3.4 GHz and 48 GB of DDR4 memory. It includes two 146 GB 15K SAS drives managed by a Smart HBA H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The chassis provides eight small form factor drive bays and dual 500 W redundant power supplies.
Verify your rack can accommodate a 2U unit and that your PDUs deliver sufficient current for dual 500 W supplies. The system ships with one processor installed; the socket for a second CPU is empty and the board offers 24 DDR4 DIMM slots with a 48 GB installed capacity. Drive trays for the 2.5 inch SAS bays are included with the two drives, but additional bays or NVME options require separate hardware.
Dual redundant power supplies share the load continuously, reducing thermal stress on each unit during extended operation. The 15K RPM SAS drives maintain consistent throughput for random I/O workloads, while the H240ar controller offloads parity calculations for RAID 5, 6, 50 or 60 without saturating the 12 Gb SAS link. ECC registered DDR4 protects data integrity over long compute runs.

Other versions of this model
The server ships with a single Xeon E5-2643 v3 3.4GHz six-core CPU, 48GB DDR4 ECC registered memory, two 146GB 15K 6Gbps 2.5" SAS drives in trays, an H240ar 12Gb SAS/6Gb SATA RAID controller, two 500W redundant hot-swap power supplies, and a Matrox G200eH2 GPU. No operating system, rails, or additional drives are included.
The 146GB 15K SAS drives deliver high IOPS for transactional workloads. The chassis has 8 SFF bays; NVMe can be added to bay 2 only via an optional 6-drive NVMe kit, so choose SAS now if you need immediate capacity and NVMe later for low-latency caching.
The E5-2643 v3 runs at 3.4GHz base frequency across all six cores, with hyper-threading providing 12 logical threads. Actual turbo behaviour depends on thermal headroom and core count loaded; DDR4 memory speed will operate up to 2400MT/s limited by the processor's memory controller.
