2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2640 2.5GHz processors, 16GB DDR3, P420i RAID controller and redundant 460W power supplies
This 2U rack server ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2640 processors running at 2.5GHz, each providing six cores and twelve threads. It includes 16GB of DDR3 memory across two 8GB modules, with 24 DIMM slots available for expansion up to 768GB. The system is aimed at organisations needing dense compute in a standard rack footprint without pre-installed storage drives.
Two hot-plug 460W Platinum Plus power supplies deliver redundancy, while six fans maintain airflow with N+1 resilience. Each Xeon carries a 95W thermal design power, so the cooling arrangement is built to handle sustained multi-core workloads. The integrated iLO Management Engine provides remote monitoring of thermal and power status without requiring host operating-system access.
The chassis offers eight small-form-factor SAS/SATA drive bays and an onboard HP Smart Array P420i controller with 1GB flash-backed write cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5 and 5+0. A quad-port 1Gb 331FLR Ethernet adapter handles network connectivity, while three PCIe expansion slots remain open for additional controllers or accelerators. No drives are included, so storage capacity and performance are defined entirely by the drives you install.

The two Xeon E5-2640 CPUs come pre-installed in the sockets; the step often missed is applying the correct torque to the heatsink retention screws in the diagonal sequence shown in the service guide.
The hot-plug 460 W Platinum Plus supplies are designed for N+1 redundancy; maintenance consists of monitoring the iLO health LEDs and replacing a unit only if its amber fault indicator lights.
The Smart Array P420i controller with 1 GB FBWC caps write throughput at the cache capacity; under heavy sustained writes the flash-backed cache fills before the SAS/SATA drives reach their own limits.
