Dual Opteron 12-core 2U server

This 2U rack server ships with two AMD Opteron 6238 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 12 cores and 16 MB L3 cache. It includes 16 GB of DDR3-1333 registered memory across four DIMMs. The chassis provides eight small-form-factor SAS or SATA drive bays and four Gigabit Ethernet ports via dual NC382i adapters.

Smart Array P410i with 512 MB FBWC

The integrated Smart Array P410i controller includes 512 MB of flash-backed write cache, enabling RAID levels that protect data during power loss. No hard drives are included, so the buyer must populate the eight SFF bays with SAS or SATA disks to create usable storage volumes.

Single 460 W Gold power supply

Only one 460 W Common Slot Gold hot-plug supply is fitted, leaving no redundancy if that unit fails. Six hot-plug redundant fans maintain airflow, but the single PSU limits the configuration to workloads that stay within its output envelope.

Questions about this item

What hot-plug components will need replacement over time?

The server includes six hot-plug redundant fans and a hot-plug power supply; both are field-replaceable without shutting down the system.

Which component hits its limit first during sustained full-load operation?

Each AMD Opteron 6238 processor has a 115W thermal design power, so the cooling subsystem and 460W power supply define the sustained-load ceiling.

How much heat and noise should I expect when the server runs continuously?

Dual 115W CPUs and six redundant fans mean noticeable airflow and heat output; the single 460W Gold supply will draw near its rating under full load.
