A 40 Gbps QSFP+ transceiver for 100 m multi-mode fibre links at 850 nm
The HP X140 is a QSFP+ transceiver module designed for 40 Gbps connectivity over multi-mode fibre. It suits network engineers and data-centre operators who need reliable short-range links between switches, routers or servers within the same rack or row.
This module plugs into a standard QSFP+ cage and operates at 850 nm wavelength to reach up to 100 m over OM3 or OM4 multi-mode fibre. It frees up copper uplink ports and reduces cable bulk in dense patching environments while drawing power directly from the host port.
Replacing four separate 10 Gbps SFP+ links or copper direct-attach cables with a single 40 Gbps QSFP+ link simplifies cabling and cuts port consumption. The jump is worth it when bandwidth demand exceeds 10 Gbps per lane and the link distance stays within 100 m.
