Enterprise SAS storage

The HPE 652572-B21 is a 450GB 10000 RPM SAS hard drive built for 2.5-inch SFF server bays. It targets administrators who need fast, reliable storage for transaction-heavy workloads in enterprise environments.

Smart Carrier hot-swap build

A Smart Carrier tray is attached, enabling tool-less hot-swap replacement in compatible HPE servers. The 2.5-inch form factor fits SFF drive cages, while the SAS 6Gb/s interface provides dual-port redundancy for continuous availability.

10000 RPM rotational speed

The 10K spindle delivers an average seek time of 4ms, making this drive suitable for high-IOPS applications such as databases and virtualisation. It is not suited for archival workloads that prioritise capacity over low-latency random access.

Questions about this item

What does the 6 Gb/s SAS interface limit in practice?

The 6 Gb/s SAS interface sets the maximum bus bandwidth available to the drive, so sustained transfers cannot exceed that link speed.

What physical space and carrier does the 2.5" SFF drive with Smart Carrier require?

It fits a 2.5-inch SFF hot-swap bay and the Smart Carrier tray is already attached, so no separate caddy is needed.

How is the drive installed and what step is often missed?

Slide the Smart Carrier into the hot-swap bay until it clicks; the step often missed is ensuring the release lever fully locks to engage the SAS connector.
