HPE 653971-001 900 GB SAS Drive

This HPE 653971-001 is a 900 GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 10000 rpm. It connects through a 6Gb/s SAS interface and supports hot-pluggable installation. The drive is designed for desktop environments and carries RoHS environmental certification.

Suits High-IO Server Slots

The 10000 rpm spindle speed and SAS interface suit workloads that demand consistent random I/O performance in hot-plug bays. Buyers who need larger capacity per drive or the lower latency of solid-state media should consider other options. Systems without a SAS backplane or controller cannot use this drive.

Hot-Plug Tray Simplifies Swaps

The hot-pluggable form factor allows drive replacement without powering down the host system when used with a compatible backplane. This reduces service interruption during maintenance or capacity changes. The RoHS certification confirms compliance with restricted-substance regulations. No additional software or mounting hardware is described in the supplied data.

Questions about this item

What server or enclosure do I need to install this 2.5" SAS hard drive?

You need a system with a 2.5-inch drive bay and a SAS controller that supports 6Gb/s SAS, plus a backplane or cable that carries both power and data to the drive.

Will this 6Gb/s SAS drive work in an older 3Gb/s SAS backplane?

The drive uses the 6Gb/s SAS interface standard; it will negotiate down to 3Gb/s on an older backplane, but sustained throughput will be limited to that slower link speed.

How do I verify the drive is recognised and healthy after installation?

Check the RAID controller BIOS or operating-system disk utility for the 900 GB capacity, 10000 rpm spindle speed and SAS 6Gb/s link rate, then run a SMART self-test to confirm no errors.
