10TB SAS Hard Drive

The HPE 857644-B21 is a 10TB SAS hard drive built for 3.5-inch hot-swap bays. It spins at 7200RPM and includes a 256MB cache. The drive uses a 512E sector format and connects via a 12G SAS interface.

Suited for enterprise arrays.

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that accept 3.5-inch SAS hot-swap drives. It is not suitable for desktops, laptops or external enclosures that only provide SATA or USB connections. Buyers without a SAS backplane or controller should look at other storage options.

12G SAS interface decides compatibility

The single specification that determines fit is the 12G SAS interface. The system must support 12G SAS signalling and 3.5-inch hot-swap carriers for the drive to function.

Questions about this item

Does the HPE 857644-B21 require a SAS 12G controller or backplane to operate?

Yes, the drive uses a SAS 12G interface and must be connected to a compatible SAS controller or backplane that supports 12 Gbit/s speeds.

Will this 10TB SAS drive work in a server that currently uses 6G SAS drives?

The drive is backward compatible with 6G SAS infrastructure, though it will run at the lower 6 Gbit/s link speed when installed in such systems.

How can I confirm the 256 MB cache and 7200 RPM speed are active after installation?

Check the drive properties in your RAID controller BIOS or operating system utilities; they will report the 256 MB cache size and 7200 RPM rotational speed.
