2 TB SAS 12Gb/s drive for HPE 3PAR 8000

This HPE 858648-001 provides 2 TB of storage on a 2.5 inch internal hard drive. It uses a SAS interface running at 12Gb/s and spins at 7200 rpm. The drive is designed for the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 Storage System.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

As a 7200 rpm mechanical drive it generates typical heat and audible seek noise during operation. Power draw follows standard SAS 12Gb/s specifications for a 2.5 inch form factor. No wireless LAN components are present to add extra load.

Build quality and connector implications

The 2.5 inch SAS connector allows direct installation into compatible HPE 3PAR 8000 bays without adapters. Internal mounting secures the drive in storage-system chassis. Retail or OEM packing may vary so included accessories can differ.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive into an HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 and which step is often missed?

Slide the drive into the hot-plug carrier until the latch clicks, then insert the carrier into the bay until the lever locks; the step often missed is fully engaging the carrier lever to seat the SAS connector on the backplane.

What maintenance or replacement will the 7200 rpm SAS drive need later?

The drive has no user-serviceable parts; plan replacement when SMART attributes report reallocated sectors or when the array controller flags a predictive failure alert.

What limit appears first on the 12Gb/s SAS interface during sustained writes?

The 7200 rpm spindle caps sustained throughput at the media transfer rate, so the mechanical limit is reached before the 12Gb/s SAS link saturates.
