1.2 TB SAS drive for enterprise storage

Thermals and power in normal use

The 10K spindle speed generates measurable heat that requires adequate chassis airflow to maintain reliable operating temperatures. Acoustic output is typical for a 10K SAS drive and will be audible in quiet environments. Power draw scales with sustained throughput and remains within the standard envelope for this drive class.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1.2TB 10K 12Gbps SAS drive in a 3.5" bay and what step is often missed?

Mount the drive in the 3.5" bay, connect both the SAS data and power cables, then verify the controller BIOS detects the 12Gbps link speed — the step often missed is confirming the negotiated link rate after power-on.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1.2TB 10K SAS drive need later?

Plan to replace the drive once SMART attributes show reallocated sectors or excessive seek errors; 10K spindles wear faster than slower drives, so schedule a swap before the error rate rises sharply.
