Blade Server for Virtualised Workloads

The HPE BL460c Gen10 fits a standard blade enclosure and delivers dual Xeon Gold 6242 processors running at 2.8 GHz with 16 cores each. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory support moderate consolidation of virtual machines or container clusters. Integrated Lights-Out Advanced provides remote firmware updates and power control without physical access.

Storage Controller and Network Adapter

The Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 controller manages the two installed 900 GB SAS 2.5-inch 10K drives in hardware RAID 0 or 1. A FlexFabric 20 Gb 2-port 650FLB adapter supplies converged Ethernet and Fibre Channel connectivity through the enclosure mid-plane. Both components are factory-fitted and firmware-current.

Memory Headroom and Drive Capacity

The chassis accepts up to 128 GB of DDR4 across its DIMM slots, leaving room for future growth beyond the current 48 GB. Two drive bays limit internal storage to a maximum of two SAS devices, so capacity tops out at 1.8 TB with the supplied drives. Buyers needing larger local datasets or additional RAID levels must use external arrays.

Questions about this item

Will the Smart Array P204i-b SR controller need a firmware update or battery replacement over time?

The controller firmware is updated to the latest stable version before shipment; no battery-backed cache is included on this SR model.

What thermal limit appears first when both Xeon Gold 6242 CPUs run at 2.8 GHz continuously?

The blade's 22-inch chassis and shared enclosure cooling define the thermal ceiling; sustained full-load operation will hit the enclosure airflow limit before the CPU throttle point.

How loud and how much power does the 20 lb blade draw under all-day load?

Acoustic output and power draw depend on the enclosure fan profile and the 650FLB 20 Gb network load; the blade itself has no independent fans or power supply.
