HPE BL460c G10 blade server for dense compute

The HPE BL460c G10 is a half-height blade server that fits into a c-Class enclosure. Two Xeon Silver 4216 processors deliver sixteen cores each at 2.1 GHz, and forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory support virtualisation and database workloads. Two 4TB SATA 2.5-inch drives provide bulk storage on the integrated Smart Array P204i-b SR controller.

Blade form factor with integrated remote management

The server installs directly into an HPE c-Class chassis, sharing power, cooling and fabric modules with neighbouring blades. A FlexFabric 20Gb two-port 650FLB adapter handles network connectivity through the enclosure interconnects. Integrated Lights-Out Advanced gives full remote console, power control and firmware update capability without physical access to the rack.

Thermals managed by shared enclosure cooling

The blade relies on the chassis fan wall for airflow, so acoustic output and thermal margins depend on the enclosure configuration and inlet temperature. Dual processors and the storage controller draw power from the shared mid-plane supply rails. Firmware and BIOS are updated to the latest stable release before shipment, and a full burn-in test verifies stable operation under load.

Questions about this item

What SATA interface does the Smart Array P204i-b SR controller use and what practical throughput cap should I expect?

The on-board Smart Array P204i-b SR controller connects the two 4 TB SATA 2.5" drives over a 6 Gb/s SATA link, so sustained throughput is limited to the SATA 6 Gb/s ceiling.

What physical clearance does the BL460c Gen10 blade need inside a c-Class enclosure?

The half-height blade measures 22 x 22 x 10 in and weighs 20 lb, so it occupies a single half-height bay in any HPE c-Class enclosure with the standard interconnect modules installed.

How is the blade seated in the enclosure and which step is most often missed?

Slide the blade into the empty half-height bay until the front latch clicks, then press the blue release lever to lock it; the step most often missed is engaging that lever so the blade is fully seated and powered.
