A 2U rack-mount enclosure holding twelve 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives with up to 1920 TB total capacity
The HPE D3610 is a 2U rackmount barebone server enclosure designed for storage workloads. It provides twelve 3.5-inch bays that accept LFF SAS or SATA drives in Smart carriers. The unit ships without any drives installed, letting you populate it with the capacity and media type your environment requires. It is aimed at administrators who need dense, direct-attached capacity expansion for compatible HPE Smart Array controllers.
The enclosure connects via a 12Gb/s SAS host interface and supports mixing SAS, SATA and solid-state drives in the same chassis. Up to twenty-five solid-state drives can be used per Smart Array controller across the D3000 family. Familiar HPE management tools such as Systems Insight Manager and Array Configuration Utility handle monitoring and configuration. The platform works with selected HPE Smart Array SAS controllers and HBAs.
Under sustained demand the D3610 can scale to ninety-six large-form-factor drives by daisy-chaining up to eight enclosures from a single controller port. Mixed deployments allow four LFF and four SFF enclosures for a combined one hundred forty-eight drives. The chassis measures 3.44 by 17.64 by 23.54 inches and weighs 60 lbs, fitting standard 19-inch racks. First listed by the manufacturer in 2025.

Mount the 2U enclosure using the included rails, insert up to 12 LFF Smart carriers into the 3.5" bays, then cable the 12Gb/s SAS host ports to a supported HPE Smart Array controller; the step often missed is seating each carrier until the latch clicks to engage the midplane.
The enclosure itself has no user-replaceable parts listed; plan to swap individual 3.5" SAS or SATA drives in Smart carriers as they age, and replace a failed I/O module or power supply only if a compatible spare is sourced separately.
A single controller port supports up to eight D3610 enclosures, reaching 96 drives total; the Smart Array controller caps mixed LFF and SFF expansion at 148 drives, so the eight-enclosure SAS port limit appears first.
