Dual Xeon E5-2640 v3 server

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for virtualisation hosts, database clusters and compute-heavy workloads that need two sockets in a 12-bay chassis. It arrives with two eight-core Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors running at 2.6GHz and 96GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed. Remote management is handled by HPE iLO Advanced for out-of-band control.

Sustained-load behaviour

Dual 800W hot-plug power supplies feed the CPUs, memory and a P440ar SAS controller with expander, allowing all twelve 3.5-inch drive bays to operate under continuous I/O without throttling. The 20MB L3 cache per processor keeps frequent data close during long-running jobs. Firmware is updated to the latest stable release and each unit passes a full burn-in test before dispatch.

Twelve 3.5-inch drive bays

The chassis provides twelve large-form-factor SATA or SAS bays but ships with no drives installed, so storage capacity and RAID level are entirely defined by the drives you add. Maximum supported memory reaches 3TB across 24 DIMM slots for future expansion. Network connectivity includes two 10GbE and two 1GbE ports via an Intel I350/X540 adapter.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the dual Xeon E5-2640 v3 setup with two 800W power supplies produce when running continuously?

The server uses two 800W Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies; actual heat output depends on workload but the units are rated for 800W each.

Which drive trays or caddies are required to populate the 12 LFF 3.5-inch bays?

The chassis supports 12 LFF 3.5-inch drive bays and uses a P440ar SAS controller with expander; standard HPE LFF drive carriers are needed.

Will the integrated graphics and iLO remote management work with older KVM switches or serial consoles?

The system provides HPE iLO Advanced for remote management and integrated graphics for local video; compatibility with legacy KVM or serial gear depends on those devices.
