12-bay 3.5-inch rack server with one 2.4GHz 14-core Xeon E5-2680v4 and 64GB DDR4 ECC memory
The HPE DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rackmount server system built around a twelve-bay 3.5-inch chassis. It arrives with one Intel Xeon E5-2680v4 processor running at 2.4GHz with fourteen cores and 64GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Dual 800W hot-plug power supplies and an HPE Smart Array P440ar SAS controller with expander are installed. Integrated graphics and HPE iLO remote management provide out-of-band control.
This configuration suits teams that need maximum internal 3.5-inch drive capacity in a standard rack depth. The twelve-bay chassis and SAS expander support large SATA hard-drive arrays for backup, archive or media repositories. Buyers who require 2.5-inch bay density, more than two processors, or a GPU-ready riser should evaluate other platforms. The single CPU installed leaves one socket open for future expansion.
The server ships with one Xeon E5-2680v4 installed and supports a second identical processor. With only one CPU active, memory bandwidth and core count are halved compared to the dual-socket maximum. Workloads that scale linearly with core count — such as heavy virtualization hosts or render farms — will see a direct ceiling until the second socket is populated.

Seat the P440ar in the dedicated internal slot, connect the SAS expander cable to the backplane, then enable the controller in the BIOS before the OS loads.
Replace modules only if diagnostics report correctable errors or a DIMM fails; DDR4 ECC registered memory has no scheduled replacement interval.
The pair delivers 1600W total; sustained draw above that trips the over-current protection and shuts the system down.
