Rack server for compute-intensive workloads

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 chassis houses two Xeon E5-2697 v4 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with 18 cores and 45 MB cache. 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed, supporting up to 3 TB total capacity. This configuration targets virtualization hosts, database nodes and rendering farms that demand high core counts and large memory footprints.

Four 3.5-inch drive bays with SAS controller

The 4LFF chassis provides four large-form-factor bays for SATA or SAS drives; no drives are installed from the factory. An HPE Smart Array P440 PCIe SAS controller manages RAID levels for the installed disks. Dual 500 W Flex Slot power supplies deliver redundancy, while an integrated 1 GbE two-port 332T adapter handles baseline network connectivity.

iLO Advanced remote management included

HPE iLO Advanced firmware is pre-loaded and updated to the latest stable version, enabling full out-of-band control, virtual media and remote console access. A rail kit is available on request for rack mounting. Buyers who need internal storage, GPU acceleration or 10 GbE networking must add those components separately.

Questions about this item

What SAS controller does the server use and what drive interface does it limit the bays to?

The P440 PCIe SAS controller connects the four 3.5-inch bays through a SATA interface, so installed drives will run at SATA speeds.

What are the chassis dimensions and rail requirement for a standard rack?

The unit measures 36 by 24 by 10 inches and weighs 40 pounds; a compatible rail kit is available on request for secure mounting.

How are the two CPUs and memory installed, and what slot population mistake should be avoided?

Both Xeon 2697 v4 processors are pre-installed with 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory; when adding modules, populate each processor's channels evenly to maintain performance.
