HPE EG1200JEMDA 1.2TB 10K SAS Drive

The HPE EG1200JEMDA is a 1.2TB internal hard drive spinning at 10000RPM with a 12Gb/s SAS interface. It uses a 2.5 inch small form factor and includes a Smart Carrier tray for direct installation in compatible HPE server bays. This new drive suits administrators who need high-speed rotational storage for transactional workloads.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This drive fits HPE servers that accept 2.5 inch SAS drives with a 12Gb/s backplane and Smart Carrier support. It is not for systems that lack a SAS controller or the correct drive bay geometry. Buyers who need larger capacity per spindle or solid-state latency should consider other storage types.

The specification that decides fit

The 12Gb/s SAS interface is the single specification that determines whether this drive will function in your chassis. Verify that your server backplane and RAID controller both support 12Gb/s SAS before purchasing.

Questions about this item

What does the 10000RPM speed mean for actual server workloads?

The 10000RPM spindle reduces rotational latency, giving faster random read and write response for transactional databases and virtualisation workloads compared with slower drives.

How does the 12Gb/s SAS interface limit real-world throughput?

The 12Gb/s SAS link caps the drive at 1200MB/s theoretical bandwidth; sustained transfers will be lower and depend on the controller and workload.

What does the 2.5-inch SFF form factor with the included Smart Carrier require for installation?

The 2.5-inch SFF drive fits HPE server bays that accept the Smart Carrier tray; it slides directly into the hot-plug cage without extra brackets.
