Enterprise SAS drive for 2.5-inch bays

This HPE enterprise hard drive delivers 2.4 TB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It connects through a SAS 12G interface and spins at 10K RPM. The drive uses 512e formatting and includes digitally signed firmware for supply-chain security.

Suited for high-transaction server workloads

The drive targets mission-critical and I/O-intensive applications that demand consistent throughput and rugged reliability. It fits small-form-factor server bays with a Smart Carrier that shows status icons and a do-not-remove button. Buyers who need a different interface protocol or a larger physical form factor should look at something else.

The SAS 12G interface and 10K RPM spindle

These two specifications decide whether the drive matches the controller and performance envelope of the target server. The 512e sector format must also be compatible with the array configuration. Verify the controller supports SAS 12G and that the bay accepts 2.5 inch drives before purchase.

Questions about this item

What server bay and controller does the 2.5 in SAS drive need?

The drive fits a 2.5 in small-form-factor bay and requires a SAS 12Gb/s controller or backplane to operate.

Will the 10K RPM drive work with my existing 6Gb/s SAS backplane?

Yes, the SAS 12Gb/s interface negotiates down to 6Gb/s, so the 2.4 TB drive will function on older backplanes at the lower speed.

How do I confirm the 512e drive is healthy after installation?

Check the Smart Carrier status icons and run the HPE diagnostic utility to verify the 2.4 TB capacity and firmware signature.
