24-port PoE+ switch with SFP uplinks

The HPE Instant On 1830 provides 24 Gigabit ports, 12 of which deliver Class 4 PoE power up to a 195 W budget. Two SFP slots add fibre uplinks for longer runs. The 1 U rack-mountable chassis suits small offices, retail sites and branch deployments that need silent, fanless operation.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous traffic the switch forwards at wire speed across all 24 ports while the PoE budget remains fixed at 195 W, so every powered device receives its negotiated class power without throttling. The fanless design relies on passive convection; temperature stays within spec when the unit is mounted with adequate airflow clearance.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the 195 W PoE budget generate when the switch runs 24/7?

The 195 W PoE budget is the maximum power delivered to connected devices; the switch itself draws only the power needed for its own operation plus that PoE load, so sustained heat output depends on how many powered devices you attach.

Do I need a rack and mounting hardware to install this 17.4 in wide switch?

The unit is rack-mountable and 17.4 in wide, so it fits a standard 19 in rack; you will need a rack or shelf and the appropriate mounting brackets or screws, which are not included.
