3TB 7200RPM SAS Internal Drive

The HPE MB3000GVYZH is a 3.5-inch internal hard drive with a 3000GB capacity and a 7200RPM spindle speed. It uses a SAS interface operating at 6Gbps for connection to compatible controllers or backplanes. The unit weighs 2.0 pound and is supplied new with a 1-year warranty.

Server Storage Upgrade

This drive suits administrators expanding storage arrays or replacing failed disks in servers and storage enclosures that accept 3.5-inch LFF SAS drives. It is not for buyers whose systems lack a SAS host bus adapter or backplane, or for those needing the lower latency of solid-state media.

SAS 6Gbps Interface

The single specification that determines fit is the SAS 6Gbps interface; the drive must connect to a controller or backplane that supports this exact protocol and speed. Verify that the target system provides a compatible SAS port and 3.5-inch LFF bay before purchase.

Questions about this item

What transfer ceiling does the SAS 6Gbps interface impose on this 3TB drive?

The SAS 6Gbps link caps sustained throughput at 6Gbps, so the MB3000GVYZH cannot exceed that bandwidth regardless of its 7200RPM spindle speed.

Which bay size and form factor must the chassis provide for this 3.5in LFF unit?

The drive requires a standard 3.5in large-form-factor bay; it will not fit 2.5in slots or slim-line cages.

How is the MB3000GVYZH installed in a server, and what step is often missed?

Slide the drive into the hot-plug tray until the SAS and power connectors seat firmly, then lock the lever; forgetting to engage the latch leaves the drive loose and unrecognised.
