HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 4LFF server

This HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 4LFF system arrives with two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v4 processors running at 2.4GHz and 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The 4LFF chassis supports up to four 3.5-inch drive bays for SATA or SAS storage. It is built for organisations that need a dense 2U rack platform for virtualisation, databases or general-purpose workloads.

Smart Array P440 controller and iLO Advanced

The integrated HPE Smart Array P440 SAS controller provides hardware RAID for the installed drive bays, while HPE iLO Advanced remote management enables out-of-band monitoring, firmware updates and power control without an operating system. Two 500W Flex Slot power supplies deliver redundancy. These bundled components reduce the parts a buyer must source separately.

DDR4 memory ceiling and 1GbE network limit

The platform accepts up to 3TB of DDR4 memory across its DIMM slots, so the 256GB installed leaves headroom for growth but cannot use newer memory generations. Network connectivity is limited to the onboard 1GbE 332T dual-port adapter; faster Ethernet or additional NICs require open PCIe slots. No drives are included, so storage capacity and performance depend entirely on the drives the buyer adds.

Questions about this item

What drive replacements will the four 3.5-inch bays require over time?

The bays accept 3.5-inch SATA drives; any failed drive can be swapped with a compatible SATA unit.

Which component hits its limit first during sustained heavy workloads?

The pair of Xeon E5-2640 v4 processors, each with 10 cores, will reach full utilisation before the 256GB DDR4 memory or the P440 SAS controller saturate.

How much fan noise and heat should I expect when the server runs 24/7 with two 500W power supplies?

Dual 500W flex-slot supplies and integrated graphics keep power draw moderate; the chassis fans will ramp up under load but remain within typical rack-mount acoustics.
