Dual 16-core Xeon 2.3 GHz processors and 256 GB DDR4 in a 4-bay 3.5-inch rack chassis with P440 SAS controller and iLO remote management
The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 packs two Xeon E5-2698 v3 processors running at 2.3GHz with sixteen cores each into a four-bay 3.5-inch chassis. It targets workloads that demand high thread counts and large memory capacity in a single rack unit. The 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory supports virtualisation clusters and in-memory databases. Buyers needing more than four drive bays or GPU acceleration should look elsewhere.
A Smart Array P440 SAS controller handles RAID for SATA drives you supply, while the 332T dual-port 1GbE adapter provides baseline connectivity. Dual 500W flex-slot power supplies deliver redundancy without occupying extra slots. HPE iLO Advanced enables remote firmware updates, power control and console access from any browser. The server ships without drives or rail kit, so those must be sourced separately.
Sixteen cores per socket maintain 2.3GHz across all threads during extended compile jobs or database scans, aided by 40MB of last-level cache per processor. DDR4 bandwidth scales with the installed 256GB configuration to keep memory-bound tasks fed. Redundant power supplies and the P440's battery-backed write cache protect data integrity during prolonged write-heavy phases. Thermal design keeps the node stable in standard rack airflow without throttling.

The board supports a maximum of 3TB DDR4 ECC registered memory across its slots.
Two 16-core CPUs at 2.3GHz and dual 500W supplies mean substantial heat output; the 4LFF chassis uses multiple fans that become audible under sustained load.
The 4LFF chassis takes 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives; you must supply HPE Gen9 LFF drive trays and the P440 provides the SAS/SATA connections.
