Configuration summary

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 rack server arrives with two Xeon E5-2637 v4 processors running at 3.5GHz and 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays are provided, though no drives are installed, and a Smart Array P440 SAS controller handles storage connectivity. Integrated graphics and iLO Advanced remote management are included.

Fit assessment

This configuration suits workloads that benefit from high single-thread frequency and large memory capacity, such as database caching, virtualization hosts or compute-intensive applications. Buyers who need more than two processor sockets, additional drive bays beyond eight, or storage interfaces other than SAS should look at other platforms.

Decisive specification

The dual Xeon E5-2637 v4 CPUs deliver four cores each at 3.5GHz with 15MB cache per processor, setting the performance ceiling for the system. Combined with 256GB of DDR4 memory and the P440 SAS controller, this specification determines whether the server meets the target workload's compute and memory requirements.

Questions about this item

What comes with the server and what must I buy separately?

The chassis includes two Xeon E5-2637 v4 CPUs, 256 GB DDR4 ECC registered memory, a P440 PCIe SAS controller, dual 500 W power supplies, and a quad-port Intel I350/X540 network card. No 2.5-inch drives or rail kit are installed; both are optional.

How do I choose between the 8 SFF bays and the memory capacity?

The 8 SFF bays accept 2.5-inch SAS drives you add yourself; the system holds up to 3 TB DDR4, so the installed 256 GB can be expanded later if your workloads need more memory.

What does the 3.5 GHz clock speed mean in daily use?

Each of the eight total cores runs at 3.5 GHz, giving strong single-thread performance for databases or virtualization hosts that benefit from high frequency rather than core count.
