2U rack server with 18-core Xeon at 2.3 GHz, 256 GB DDR4 and P440 SAS controller, eight 2.5-inch bays ready for SATA drives
The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 8SFF is a rack-mount server system built for data-centre workloads that demand dense compute in a 2U form factor. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2697 v4 processor running at 2.3GHz and 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory, making it suited for virtualisation clusters, database nodes and high-throughput applications. Buyers who need dual-socket performance from day one or require pre-installed storage drives should look elsewhere.
The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch drive bays and a maximum memory capacity of 3TB across 24 DIMM slots, so the current 256GB configuration leaves substantial headroom for memory-heavy workloads. The installed Xeon E5-2697 v4 delivers 18 cores and 45MB of cache, while the HPE Smart Array P440 SAS controller manages SATA and SAS drives in RAID arrays. A second processor socket remains empty, limiting peak compute until a matching CPU is added.
Dual 500W Flex Slot power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation, and the integrated Intel I350/X540 network card delivers two 10GbE and two 1GbE ports for flexible fabric connectivity. Remote management is handled by HPE iLO Advanced, enabling out-of-band monitoring, firmware updates and console access without a local KVM. The unit measures 36 by 24 by 10 inches and weighs 40 units, fitting standard racks; rail kits are available on request for simplified installation.

The installed processor provides 40 lanes, which is sufficient for the P440 controller and the Intel I350/X540 network card simultaneously.
Enter the UEFI System Utilities or iLO interface; both report total capacity, speed and any corrected ECC errors during POST.
The chassis ships with eight drive caddies; rail kits are available on request but not included by default.
