Single-channel cable protection

The Hubbell FT4Y5 is a five-foot yellow PVC cable protector with one internal channel measuring 1 1/4 inches wide by 3/4 inch high. It accepts cables up to 3/4 inch in diameter and is designed for temporary or semi-permanent routing across walkways, job sites or event floors where foot traffic and light wheeled loads cross cable runs.

Sustained load behaviour

The product carries no published load-capacity rating, so it cannot be specified for repeated vehicle traffic or heavy equipment crossings. Its smooth PVC surface and 1 1/8 inch overall height provide a low-profile trip hazard reduction under pedestrian use, but prolonged compression from concentrated wheel loads may deform the channel without a rated limit to reference.

Build and daily implications

The ADA-compliant profile and smooth texture allow wheelchair and cart passage without snagging, while the bright yellow colour maintains visibility in low-light conditions. The single-channel layout suits one primary cable or hose; installations needing multiple segregated runs or higher crush resistance will require a different protector format.

Questions about this item

Does the 1 1/8-inch high PVC protector get hot or noisy when cables run through it all day?

The FT4Y5 is a passive PVC cover with no moving parts or electronics, so it produces no heat and no noise regardless of how long cables remain inside.

What floor type or mounting hardware do I need so the 3 1/4-inch wide channel stays in place?

The protector lies flat on any hard surface; its textured PVC bottom grips without adhesives, screws or additional hardware.

Will the 3/4-inch maximum cable diameter still fit if I keep using older Category 5 or coaxial cords?

Yes — any cord up to 3/4 inch in diameter fits the single channel, so legacy Cat5, coaxial or similar cables are fully compatible.
