High-amperage single-pole plug

This Hubbell HBL400MBK is a straight-blade male plug rated for 400 A at 600 V AC and 250 V DC. It accepts conductor sizes from 2/0 to 4/0 and terminates with a double set-screw connection. The body is moulded from black thermoplastic elastomer with brass contacts.

Suited for heavy-duty power distribution

Electricians wiring temporary service, generator hook-ups or industrial machinery will find the 400 A capacity and NEMA 12K, 3R and 4X ratings appropriate. Installers who need a female connector, a lower amperage device or a different voltage class should select another product.

400 A continuous current rating

The single-pole taper-nose design is built to carry 400 A continuously when used with correctly sized cable and proper torque on the set screws. This rating is the primary factor in determining whether the plug matches the circuit requirements.

Questions about this item

What does the 400 A rating mean when the plug is installed in a circuit?

The 400 A rating shows the maximum continuous current the plug can carry when mated with a matching connector and cable sized for that load.

How does the double set screw terminal affect the connection?

The double set screw terminal clamps each conductor at two points, giving a secure grip on cables from 2/0 to 4/0 without soldering or crimping.

What cable diameters will fit through the housing?

The housing accepts single pole cables ranging from 2/0 to 4/0, matching the terminal’s clamping range.
